Adventure Time this Year—Family Dinner Book Club—Around the World….4 to 7 PM—Jan. 30 & Feb. 13, Mar. 13, April 10, May 8, June 12, July 10, Aug. 14, Sept. 11, Oct. 9, Nov. 13 and Dec. 11. Family Dinner Book Club is a movement to get kids and families reading together. Engaging children’s books are hand-selected by our team, along with discussion topics, fun crafts, and delicious recipes! BEST NEWS YET!!!!!!!! The library has purchased the books, and along with help from K-State Research & Extension Family Nutrition Program Assistant Kathy Goul, we will have the children and the parents prepare the meal for your family. Then you will get to sit down as family, enjoy a good meal (featuring foods from the country you’ve read about) and discussion and activities about the book and the foods. Then you will receive the next month’s book. Sound like fun?? We hope so. This is part of our “Building a Better World” this year.  Building a Better World start with Building a Healthy Family.  We will be focusing on Nutrition, Communication, Collaboration, Reading, Conversations, and Comprehension in a fun way for the whole family. Just think the family reads a book together, then gets to enjoy a meal together courtesy of the library programming for 2017.BAD NEWS NOW!!!!  This program is limited to the first 10-12 families that enroll and you must be willing to commit to doing it all year (to the best of your ability). We want the whole family to participate—that is parents and children. We are focusing on families with children in grades 1 to 5, who are willing to read ONE book a month together, commit one night a month from 4 to 7 PM, to help their children become better readers, collaborators, cooks, communicators, and healthier. In January we start with the book “The Year of the Panda” by Miriam Schlein.  “A Chinese boy rescues a starving baby panda and, in the process, learns why pandas are endangered and what the government is doing to save them.” This is a short chapter book. We will feature Chinese food for the meal, children will make the table center pieces in Adventures and do food prep. Parents are asked to come in by 5:30 and help with finishing up the food, so we can eat around 6 PM.

For February, we will travel to Colombia and read the picture book “Waiting for the Biblioburro” about how the children get library books in Colombia. Call or go online to signup today! 757-2151 or www.lacygnelibrary.org
