Join PVHS and the Hometown Teams sponsors (the Historical Society & Library) as we celebrate the 2015 by “Doing Something We’ve Never Done Before” and honoring those who have come before us. It has been 45 years since the first football team at Prairie View High School (PVHS) won the class 2A football state championship. As part our the public library and museums Smithsonian partner grant, we’ve been exploring how HomeTown teams make our communities. There are more than 20 exhibits at the museum which will be on display until Dec. 13th and we’ve had and will have a few more programs. But this is our big community-wide honor. Join us as we honor the team of 1970 and try to break an attendance record at a Prairie View Football game…That also happened in 1970. Nearly 2200 fans from the Linn County area crowded the standing room only field as the undefeated teams from Pleasanton and Prairie View took that field that night. After that game only one Linn County team remained undefeated and that was the new PVHS Buffalos. Now 45 years later, we would like to show our appreciation to our hometown teams and support the 2015 Buffalos as they play their Homecoming Game. Then stick around on Saturday, Sept. 12th for Swanfest. The team members of 1970 will be the Grand Marshalls for the annual parade. You are encouraged to get your team together and participate in the parade too.
The PVHS class of 1995 plan to celebrate their 20th anniversary as PV graduates by attending the game and participating in the events at Swanfest on Saturday.
At 4 PM on Friday, we will kick off the events with a community pep rally in the PAC (performing arts center) at PV. This will feature a presentation put together by Mrs. Lawrence’s multimedia class honoring the team of 70 football players. Then the Vo-Ag (FFA) department will host their annual chili feed, with tickets for all you can eat $4 for students, $5 for adults. Show them your support. Then 6 PM coronation of the 2015 PVHS Homecoming Royalty. 7 PM the big game between PVHS and Iola. At half time the Team of 70 will be honored. Come on out and support your Hometown Team and help BREAK the RECORD and BUST the SEAMS at PVHS new stadium. It may have been 20 years or more since you’ve been to a game…come out and be #PV Proud!
