Please JOIN us as we celebrate 5 years in our building–Friday, Oct. 26th

Oct. 26th—All Day Long—We are having a Party to Celebrate 5 years in this building
9 to 10 AM—Join us for coffee and donuts from that morning, check out the video playing in the main library, visit the 6 by 6 room, and maybe play a game of checkers or read the newspaper.
10-11 AM—join Jo Ho (the story teller who was at our grand opening) as she “Celebrates Kansas” Blaze the Kansas trails in a rootin’tootin’ celebration of KS history and folklore. In her fancy old time britches, Jo will spur your pioneer spirit with tales of KS cowboys, outlaws, and home-town heroes. Listeners will take kindly to all the fun role-playing and sing-a-longs as we travel the trails and tales of the beloved state of Kansas.
11:30—12:30— We’re asking folks to stir up their best pot of soup and bring it to share in a potluck soup luncheon. We will have mystery judges sampling the soup and deciding which is best. If you can bring soup, let Janet or Chris know. We’ll also be looking for people to donate desserts for the meal.
12:30—1:30—We’ve asked Ericka Nelson from Lucas, KS to join us for a Kansas Humanities program. The Tall-Tale Postcards of Dad Martin and Pop Conard—William H. “Dad” Martin and Frank D. “Pop” Conrad were pioneers of the postcard printing business who found inspiration in the trials and tribulations of Kansas culture. From the early 1900s through 1940 their carefully crafted images pushed the medium of photography, promoting Kansas as a land where ears of corn grew so large that farmers used logging saws to slice them and monster grasshoppers could stop a train in its tracks. This talk includes a PowerPoint presentation, postcard samples, and a how-to demonstration so you can make your own “hopper whopper.”
2:00—5:00—It’s a Spellabration! Borrowing from our friends at the Arkansas City Library, we decided to have a SCRABBLE Tournament. We are looking for the BEST Scrabble player in the La Cygne area. Funds raised from the tournament will go to fund Literacy projects in the 6 by 6 Room. Entry fee: $5.00 per person for those 18 to 61 years old. $2.00 for kids age 10-17 and for Seniors aged 62 and over. Word lovers, get ready to show us your Scrabble Skills and help us raise a little funds for our “Early Literacy” programs here at the library. Participants will play Scrabble and the official La Cygne Spellabration Scrabble winner will be declared as the person with the highest point total. Bring a friend, play some scrabble, have some fun and help us Celebrate 5 Years in this facility encouraging Literacy in our community. There will be prizes offered for the following age categories. (10-13 yr olds) (14-17 yr olds) (18-30 yr olds) (31-61 yr olds) and (62-100 yr olds). Fill out the registration form and return it to the library by Oct. 24th, so players can be assigned to games.
