We are looking forward to our 6th Annual Cabin Fever Reliver. This event helps three local organizations. The Friends of the Library sponsors the annual basket raffle (see pictures of baskets we’ve already received), those funds go to sponsor various activities throughout the year. The Library and Prairie View High school Library Club sponsors the chili cookoff, dessert auction, and cakewalk. The funds raised from these events are split and the Library Club gives scholarships to those students who have particiapted in library events, the library uses the funds to help pay for the 2013 summer reading program. Here’s how it works: anyone can donate a basket full of goodies to be raffled off that night. Tickets may be purchased for baskets on display after Feb. 8th. Tickets are $1, 6 for $5, 12 for $10, or 25 for $20. You put your name and phone number on the tickets and put them in the sacks you want. You may buy tickets up till 7 PM on Feb. 24th. We are looking for people to bring pots of chili to enter in the contest. Peoples Choice award is based on the amount of money donated in each container by the different pots of chili. Dean Hampson is a 4 time winner, we need to see if someone can beat him this year. We are planning to have secret taste testers who will vote for the best overall chili. We need donations of desserts to serve with the meal. Then if you have a special dessert that you think people would buy, enter it in the dessert auction. Ed Behm will be back again to auction off the desserts, every year it’s fun to see what dessert takes the prize for being sold for the most money. There’s a lot of competition for some items. Last but not least is the cake walk, which every one enjoys. You can donate cakes or cookies for this event. Heavenly Cafe and Fontana Christian Church women are donating 20 decorated cakes for this event, but we can use more! If you have questions about how you can help give us a call. For a free will donation you may sample all the chili you want, have a dessert and drink and sit back and enjoy the fun. Save your $$$ and support local library projects!
