Library Brings Entertainment to Swanfest 4-5 PM

The library once again is being a part of Swanfest by bringing in some entertainment for the whole family. The children all know Jo Ho from school and the library, and she recommended Br. John to come do interactive storytelling and music for us. It will be at 4 PM at the shelter house. No charge, come enjoy the show, then stay for the community jam session following.

Soda Fountains of Kansas–1 PM–Swan Room

Museum Open House and Lunch from 11 to 1.  For freewill donation come eat lunch with the folks, visit the “Streets of La Cygne” displays, then at 1 PM head across the street to the library to learn about Soda Fountains in Kansas!

Soda Fountains in Kansas
During the glory days of the soda fountain, Kansas pharmacists created tonics and curatives that evolved into refreshments like the Brown Cow, the Mudslide, and Don’t Care. Mineral springs, World War I luxury taxes, and bottled soda pop played a role in these ice cream concoctions that became a profitable sideline business. The presentation will explore soda fountains in Kansas today and the revival of soda fountains throughout the nation. Presented by Cindy Higgins.
Cindy is a journalist and Kansas historian.  Sponsored by the historical society.
